Thank you to The Fantastic Flying Book Club, NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Upon reading the description of Last Girls, I knew this was a book that I needed to read. The combination of sisterhood and doomsday preppers was just too good to pass up. I went into this book with very high expectations and I am pleased to say that it delivered in every way.

The sisters, Honey, Blue, and Birdie Juniper, while living in a town and attending public school, lead a very different life from other students. The pressures that they feel as they are torn between two conflicting worlds is somehow very relatable, even though I am not a teenager or a prepper. As we get to know the girls, readers are taken on a roller coaster of emotions that makes Last Girls hard to put down.

Reading this book during a pandemic, meeting characters who are preparing for the end of the world, gave the book an added layer of emotion that I was not prepared for. In reality, I am walking into grocery stores with empty shelves, trying to fill my pantry with long-lasting foods to keep my family fed. To see into a group of people who are much more prepared for this time in history was really very interesting and a little creepy. Is it wrong to be jealous of a fictional characters canned food collection??

Last Girls is the first book that I have read by Demetra Brodsky but it will not be my last! I look forward to hearing more from this creative author.

I give this book 5 Sips!

There were SO many quotes in this book that I wanted to share with you! It was hard to choose just a few, but here are my top three.
I used to hope. But hope can’t be trusted. Hope contradicts reality. That’s why we prep.
Society without culture might as well be dead. An extreme position, I know. What can I say? I’m a doomsday prepping enigma.
We’ve all been taught that the black sheep is a deviation from acceptable standards and something to be avoided. Still, when you see it amongst a herd, its lack of conformity is what steals your breath and captures your attention.
