Caitlin Bangsund is an author who will not talk to you about the weather but does tend to overthink most other things in life. She takes refuge in the quiet morning hours before the rooster cock-a-doodle-doos (aka the three children and dog wake up). In spite of being a serial-rule-follower at heart, she loves to make people laugh and show off her enviable dance moves whenever the opportunity allows. If you are lucky, she will share her purse-hot-sauce with you! She wishes we would all communicate in song, that we could eat unlimited quantities of cookie dough, and for a world full of hope!

Is there something special about Marvellous Macey, The Delightful Days that you want everyone to know?
My inspiration came from the trials, traumas, and treasures of dealing with childhood cancer, a life-threatening infection that resulted in life-support intervention, and an intellectual disability diagnosis. Macey, the star of the story, is a real-life superhero and she inspires me to press on and conquer all hard things in life.
Where do you begin when you develop new characters?
The characters in my story represent real people so it was easy to create them. However, there are three imaginary friends of Macey’s in the book. For those we had to guess based on their unique names (pineapple, loaf-of-bread, and pop-goes-the-weasel).
Does writing exhaust or energize you? Why?
Both. It is therapeutic for me and it helps me process, heal, and transform. But it is also exhausting trying to get all the thoughts to make sense on paper.
What is your writing kryptonite? And what is the cure?
Noisy brain. I have to force myself to get up and go outside for a walk or have a break!! Journaling also helps, although that is MORE writing.
What book are you reading right now?
On Writing by Stephen King, and The Hobbit.
What do you do to keep yourself healthy? What is your #1 healthy lifestyle tip?
Through daily walks, weight training, weekly cardio, and a consistently healthy diet. I also get up really early before the kids to stretch and have quiet time – that is a mental and spiritual health-must. My #1 healthy lifestyle tip is to find something that anchors you and do that every single day. If I miss my morning quiet time my whole day is thrown off.
What is your go-to recipe when you cook at home? It doesn’t have to be healthy – just yummy. Bonus points if it has something to do with your book!
Lemon poppyseed muffins. I’m kidding because my husband took over the cooking – yahoo! But lemons and their zest show up in my book so I think I’ll start making these muffins!!!
