Gregory Landsman is one of the most noted global beauty and wellness experts in the world, a best selling author of nine books, and a TV host who specializes in using food to take years off the face naturally.
Having worked in the beauty industry for 30+ years Gregory believes that looking youthful goes well beyond waging war on wrinkles, and that how we age is 100% controllable. His natural methods are used globally by models, shown in universities and recommended by doctors.
Often referred to as ‘The Beauty Advisor’, Gregory’s books and global TV program Face Lifting Food show viewers how to create quick skin-boosting meals and powerful skin treatments using everyday foods to achieve younger, healthier looking skin at any age.
Gregory is a strong voice for inclusion. His book, Faith Lifting Prayers is a celebration of humanity and captures his journey of extremes; from Apartheid South Africa to working at the height of the fashion industry, and his fundamental discovery that regardless of what we do, how we look cannot be separated from how we feel. This is why all of his books, even those about looking younger, all feature his own quotes and philosophy about the importance of feeling good in our skin. His book A Lifetime of BEAUTY also shares messages for early teens and middle years about embracing our differences and our individuality; finding happiness; and standing strong in a world that often judges us for the way we look. This book is endorsed for inclusion in the education system.
INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR OF FACE VALUE, GREGORY LANDSMAN FOR BOOKS, TEA, HEALTHY ME
Q1. YOU ARE A FIRM BELIEVER THAT WHEN IT COMES TO PREMATURE AGING THAT PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN A CURE.
Yes, I believe it is all about prevention and giving the body the nutrients it needs to boost, protect and revitalise our cells. A great nutritious diet is a powerful way to ensure the body has the nutrients it needs to protect and regenerate healthy skin cells.
When preventing premature aging becomes the priority, the question people need to ask themselves before they eat is, “What is this food doing for me and is it building up my overall health or breaking it down?”
Q2. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A HEALTHY DIET HOW WOULD YOU RECOMMEND CHANGING IT?
When it comes to vital, youthful looking skin there are no quick fix potions or magic lotions. If you want to feel your best and look your best, then a good nutritious diet full of skin boosting vitamins and minerals is something that will support your skin at every age.
Some people can feel overwhelmed by the prospect of change, but the best way is to start making small changes regularly that will make a lasting impact on your skin. For example, squeezing fresh lemon juice in warm water and drinking it every morning can support your liver and help firm your skin.
The best way to change our relationship with food is to become more conscious and intentional about what foods support our overall health and help prevent premature skin aging. I have known many clients who were very conscious of their skincare, but they were not conscious of what they were eating and the aging impact that this was having on their skin.
When we become conscious of the nutrients in foods we are eating and the skincare we are using, the combination supports us to strengthen and protect our skin from the inside out and the outside in.
Q3. WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO COOK WITH?
I love olive oil. Something as simple as including extra virgin olive oil in our diet can impact skin health and help prevent premature skin aging. Olive oil is an incredibly healthy fat with strong anti-inflammatory benefits that helps the body and the skin age less from the inside out.
It is made up of approximately 73% mono-unsaturated fat, which helps prevent premature skin aging by supporting increased skin firmness and elasticity.
Small changes to our diet can deliver big changes to our overall health and the vitality of our skin. So consider using extra virgin olive oil regularly in salads or pouring it over greens to help the body carry and absorb the nutrients effectively.
Q4. YOU HAVE WORKED WITH CANCER WELLNESS CENTRES TO SUPPORT PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM EXTREME SKIN DRYNESS. COULD YOU TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT THAT?
Extreme skin dryness is something that many cancer patients experience as a result of their medication. This means that they live with the discomfort of dry, cracked or flaking skin all over their bodies. However, one of the best ways to deal with dry skin is with a good nutritional diet.
This is what inspired me to start a series of classes in cancer wellness centres for carers and patients, showing them how to cook quick, easy recipes to help counteract their extreme skin dryness. These are based on the recipes in Face Food.
Eating the right vitamin and mineral rich foods can help hydrate and change the quality and texture of our skin in a very short period of time, supporting us to feel healthier and look our best at every age.
