Soul of Cinder (Heart of Thorns #3)
by Bree Barton
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Release Date: January 12th 2021
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

The Twisted Sisters are coming home.

Prince Quin has returned to the river kingdom, ready to spearhead a rebellion and reclaim the throne. He vows to destroy Mia, Pilar, and Angelyne if they oppose him—even if he must use his newfound magic to set the world aflame.

Across the four kingdoms, the elements have been tipped askew. Volcanoes erupt, glaciers collapse, and cities sink into the western sands. After losing Angie, Mia and Pilar journey to the glass kingdom to seek help, though soon their fragile bonds of sisterhood begin to fray. Mia’s sensations are creeping back, and with them, a deep and searing grief. Pilar, terrified of being broken, once again seeks comfort in her fists. But when they hear rumors of a misty island that promises to erase all pain, they suddenly find themselves with an answer—if they are willing to pay the cost.

As tensions mount, the sisters are drawn back to the river kingdom for a final reckoning with the boy they each loved. The shattering conclusion to Bree Barton’s Heart of Thorns trilogy challenges why we grieve, whom we love—and how to mend a broken heart.

And now, the Official Dream Cast from Bree Barton!

This is going to be quite the casting call. There are so many terrific actors right now!

I absolutely loved The Queen’s Gambit. As soon as I finished the show, I watched the whole thing again! The only other time I’ve done that was with Russian Doll. So I’m going to have to cast Anya Taylor-Joy. I think she’d make a great Angelyne, and then I’d have Saoirse Ronan play Mia.

But let’s be honest: by the time the show gets made, Saoirse will have aged out of the role. [Sigh] Hollywood.

Lucky for us, Anya Taylor-Joy can do anything, and she will look seventeen forever. So let’s cast her as Mia and Elle Fanning as Angelyne. Runner up for Angie: Talitha Bateman. I was really impressed with her in Away.

I could totally see Moses Ingram as Nell—she blew me away in Gambit, and her energy feels right for the part. Alternate Nell: Dara Renee. She totally kills it in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Quin’s got to be Timothée Chalamet, of course. I don’t care if he ages out: he can be my prince until he’s eighty. Manny Jacinto as Tobin, assuming he could shuck off The Good Place sweetness and tap into his dark side. Darby Camp as Briallihandra Mar, in the hopes that she will always look twelve.

Camila Mendes was originally my top pick for Pilar, though I was so impressed by Park So-dam in Parasite I might have to ask the casting director to send them both in. Third option: Olivia Rodrigo. I mean, now that I’m tapping HSMTMTS for talent, maybe I should throw Joshua Bassett into the running for Quin. I’ll always love you, Timothée, but you’re in everything these days, so I need a backup in case you’re busy.

Asante Blackk as Stone—When They See Us gutted me. For Celeste I want Missi Pyle, Reese Witherspoon, or the celestial Nicole Kidman, who also plays a Celeste in Big Little Lies. Wow, now I’m wondering if that’s always who I had in mind?!

And if the majestic Whoopi Goldberg would grace us with her wit and brilliance, I would be honored to cast her as the Shadowess. Whoopi, you are my queen.

As for Shay… is Anya Taylor-Joy still available? 😉

Here’s everyone mentioned in this post.
Who would you pick for your Soul of Cinder Dream Cast?

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Bree Barton for this super-fun post filled with beautiful and talented people (me and Bree, of course!).
