Before we begin, I want to make it clear that I am not a doctor. Nothing I say here should be taken as medical advice. Please consult your physician if you are having any type of medical issue. OK, now that we have that out of the way…
I drink a lot of water. I mean a lot. But I like water and it’s good for me. Plus if I’m drinking water, I’m not snacking on a not-so-good-for-me snack or even sipping on soda. Beyond that, there are many benefits to drinking water everyday. And if you, like so many people at this time of year, are setting a New Year’s resolution to get healthier in some way, adding water to your everyday can help.
My Favorite Benefits of Drinking Water:
- Water can help control calories.
- Energize your muscles.
- Makes your skin glow.
- Water helps keep you regular.
This New Year, I will be continuing to focus on drinking water. I’m even joining in on a 60-Day Hydration Challenge through Live Infinitely. Want to join me? It’s FREE! Check it out here and get $5 off your first purchase!
Besides joining a hydration challenge, here are five tips on how you can fit more water into your lifestyle. These work for me so maybe they will work for you too!
First Things First
I truly believe that it is important to begin each day as you mean to go on. So, before you add coffee or other drinks to your system after you wake up in the morning, make sure that you have a drink of water. The time that you are sleeping is a long time to go without having something to drink, so you are waking up dehydrated. By having a glass or two of water right away, you are rehydrating yourself and getting set for an amazing day!
If you don’t enjoy plain water, feel free to add some flavor! As long as you aren’t adding sugars or caffeine to your water, you are good to go. Here are a few ideas for easy add-ins to help you reach your water drinking goal for the day.
Fruits and Veggies
Pick your pleasure: watermelon, cucumber, lemons, limes, berries, carrots, pineapple…these all make a lovely infused water. You can create your own combinations and find something you really love!
Pro Tip: Check the frozen section of the grocery store for frozen fruits and veggies for your water. This will save you money in the long run and keep your water cold!
Another Pro Tip: If you use citrus fruits, remove the peel. I know it isn’t as Insta-pretty but the peel can make your water taste awful if left in too long. Trust me. I have learned from experience. Just take it off. Take it all off.
If you are reading this post, you are probably aware that I drink a lot of tea. I mean, it’s in the title. Lucky for me, herbal teas are a great way to stay hydrated. With few exceptions, herbal teas do not contain caffeine so they count towards your total ounces for the day. Whether you drink your tea hot or cold, herbal tea is a great way to flavor your water and increase your intake.
Check out the variety of flavors from WaterDrop. Whether you like sweet water or something more herbal, these all-natural flavors are an easy way to add different flavors to your water, even on the go.
My personal favorite is Boost. It has a bit of berry and a bit of floral flavor for a unique and refreshing way to get hydrated.
Carry It With You
This one is an easy one and it’s kind of fun. Just make sure that you always have water with you. In the car, at your desk, in your purse or gym bag…always have water with you. Which means you will need a wide variety of water bottles, which means shopping, which in one of my very favorite things to do!
Carrying a water bottle with you doesn’t just work for when you leave the house. I even keep a bottle of water next to my bed. This way, I can sip as I read at night or right away when I wake up in the morning. And since I use an insulated water bottle, my water is nice and cold no matter when I drink it!
The Bigger the Better
I am a firm believer that when it comes to water bottles, the bigger they are the better. Since I work at a desk job, a large water bottle keeps me from having to get up over and over for refills. Plus, it helps me keep track of how many ounces I drink in a day. My current water bottle is one liter which equals about 34 ounces. Since my daily water goal is 100 ounces, if I drink one bottle full at work before lunch and then another bottle after lunch before I go home, I am well on my way to meeting my daily goal!
Here’s the biggest bottle I own. I had to get a sleeve for this one too as it is not insulated so it sweat everywhere and didn’t keep my water cold at all. The sleeve really helps. This one is great for days when I am at home and not really going anywhere so that I can easily track my water intake without having to write anything down. I just have to keep drinking and follow the prompts on the bottle. There are many versions of this bottle and sleeve available on Amazon.
Many water bottles help you along the way with a timeline along the side, just like the ones above. If you sip a lot along the way, rather than gulping down large quantities, you will not only feel better but you will avoid having to get up and go to the bathroom a gazillion times a day.
The water bottles from Live Infinitely all have the time reminders on them. The bottles come in a ton of different sizes and colors. Take a look here and get $5 off your first purchase! These bottles are also great because they come with a shaker ball and an infuser lid so you can easily flavor your water.
There are apps that you can download to remind you to drink your water. There are even little attachments that you can put on your water bottle that will blink or beep when you need to drink. Personally, I prefer this:
And that’s it! Five easy ways to add more water to your everyday. I hope you found an idea or two you can use for a healthier new year!
